Back Pain Myth no.3: You have back pain because you are tall/short/thin/fat/have uneven leg lengths.... NOOOOOO!
Back Pain is UNIVERSAL! Over 80% of us will experience back pain at some point in our lives - including me!
In exactly the same way as being fit & healthy is no *guarantee* that you will avoid back pain (although it's pretty much the best darn defense we have) - being short/tall/fat/thin/having uneven leg lengths does not predispose you to having back pain.
It's super important to understand that the vast, VAST majority of back pain (around 19 in every 20 cases) is non-specific, meaning it can't be attributed to a singular cause. In fact, one of the best indicators of prognosis with back pain is mental attitude and how you deal with it (<- true story, and more on this in the future).
So - what's the point here?
The point is - if you are somebody suffering with back pain, it is better for you to avoid a lengthy search for the "cause" of your pain and instead focus your energy on the things that can help you to deal with that pain.
Whatever those things may be - from stress relief / meditation, through to exercise or simply ensuring a good night's sleep (or - let's face it - taking those lovely little painkillers and giving yourself a break!). Do what works for you and focus on those beneficial activities over and above searching for the "cause".
Physical activity can be one of the best medicines for low back pain, but if you're unsure about movement and worried about aggravating pain - working with a qualified professional can help... get in touch to see how I can help you at The Posture Practice #ThePosturePractice #LowBackPain #LowBackPainManagement #BackPainRelief #Sciatica #SciaticaRelief #ExerciseSpecialist #MovementIsMedicine #BackPainSpecialist #Pilates #PilatesInstructor #LowBackPainHelp #BackPainMyths #BustingTheMyths
